Police responding to a threat report at the Pilot Truck Stop Tuesday evening about 11pm spotted a white Audi involved in the incident heading westbound on Main Street going approximately 50mph.

According to Ferndale Police Department (FPD) Lieutenant Bill Hatchett, the FPD officer activated his lights and siren to get the driver to pull over. Instead, the driver continued on, eventually driving through the Haggen store parking lot and then heading eastbound on Main Street.

The white Audi then got on the on-ramp for southbound I-5 and, before reaching the lanes of I-5, it’s front left wheel came off causing the Audi to come to an abrupt stop. The driver bolted from the vehicle and took off on foot westward into the bushes.

A perimeter was set up around the area and a K-9 unit was called in. Soon after, Jeremiah Chaussee, age 39, was located and taken into custody.

Chaussee was booked into the Whatcom County Jail for attempting to elude police and obstructing a police officer, charges related to the evening’s incident. Chaussee was also charged with felony stalking and violation of a court order based on probable cause out of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office. The other party in the original threat report opted not to press charges.

As of 11am today, Chaussee remained in custody at the Whatcom County Jail.
