A car collided with a horse that was reportedly crossing West Axton Road this morning about 6am.

Law enforcement and aid were called and the driver was treated for a minor injury at the scene according to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman. Hoffman said the horse apparently ran back to its owner’s house and, according to the owner, was not injured.

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata had to be towed from the scene with front end damage.

Both horses were loose a week ago at the same time. I tried to wake the owners by ringing their door bell but nobody answered. I’m not sure how long it took before the horses were caught and put back in their pasture? Seems to be an ongoing issue.
