FERNDALE, Wash. — McKay’s Variety Owner Connie McKay says she awoke to a phone call from a friend early this morning, March 18th, informing her water could be seen flowing out from under her business’ front door at 2036 Main Street. She hurried in to investigate and found the entire showroom covered in a thin layer of water.

Unable to locate the source, McKay called for assistance and Ferndale Police, Ferndale Public Works and Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) personnel responded.

It appeared the water was coming from the Curry House restaurant next door at 2034 Main Street. The building owners were contacted and arrived to discover the restaurant’s dining area also covered with a puddle of water.

Further investigation revealed a hot water supply line to a bathroom sink in the back of the restaurant had sprung a small leak and had been leaking for several hours overnight. The restaurant’s kitchen area was not flooded due to being on a raised floor.

The Curry House will resume take-out service today during their normal hours according to the building owners. The dining room was already closed due to a recent state proclamation intended to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

McKay said it would be a while before she could determine the total extent of the damage to her inventory. McKay has been in the process of liquidating her inventory and closing the store she said.
