It became a harsh reality to those participating in youth baseball at the fields by the Ferndale Boys and Girls Clubhouse this year that the portable toilet they had relied on last year was not there.
That got one parent to take to social media asking why and how to get one in its place.
Ferndale Clubhouse Branch Director Anya Milton caught wind of the parent’s request and started doing some sleuthing. According to Milton, the missing relief station was the result of a combination of things, including the public library moving and a change in staff in her organization.
When the library was in the Pioneer Pavilion building, those were the bathrooms parents and kids used. But after the library moved away, the need reared up and staff at the Clubhouse arranged for a temporary portable toilet. Now, this year, there is new staff who wasn’t aware of the need.
But starting next week, parents and kids participating in the Ferndale youth baseball program will no longer find themselves in a panic when nature calls. This is, according to Milton, due to a coordinated effort between city staff (it’s their property), Clubhouse staff and a generous donation of a portable toilet from Ferndale’s own Baker Septic for the season.
“In the mean time,” according to Milton, “families needing facilities can come to the front desk and check in to use the facilities in the Clubhouse during program hours.”
