A 6-year-old Ferndale boy is recovering from injuries to one leg after it had been driven over.
It happened in the late afternoon last Saturday, February 26th. About 5:40pm, Ferndale Police and aid units responded to a report of a child run over in the Ferndale Mobile Home Court (previously known as Dunkin’s) at 1942 Trigg Road. The boy was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for an injury to his leg.
According to the police report, the driver was driving a 1990 Ford F350 pickup through the park while picking up garbage. The driver told police the boy likes to help when he does this. At some point, unbeknownst to the driver, the boy crawled under the truck. It was then the driver drove over the boy’s leg.
According to witnesses, the boy’s injuries were limited to one side of his leg but could have been worse had a young girl nearby not quickly alerted the driver causing him to stop.
According to Ferndale Police, the driver was not cited and no charges are pending.
