Body pulled from Squalicum Creek – cause of death is being investigated

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Volunteers with Whatcom County Search & Rescue along with Summit to Sound Search & Rescue assisted Bellingham Police Department (BPD) and Bellingham Fire Department personnel in recovering a body discovered in Squalicum Creek on Tuesday, December 14th.

BPD Lieutenant Claudia Murphy told Whatcom News via email that BPD officers were called to the 1000 block of Squalicum Way after a passerby reported what they believed was a body in the creek.

According to the BPD call log, officers were dispatched shortly after 4pm.

Murphy said officers arrived and found the body of a deceased male between 45- and 50-years-old in the creek. 

Officers and crime scene investigators at the scene did not notice any obvious signs of trauma and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The man’s identity was not being released since next of kin notification had not been done.
