Blaine Police and Sheriff’s Office release more information on body located on Semiahmoo Spit

BLAINE, Wash. — The Blaine Police Department and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release this afternoon, April 9th, regarding a homicide victim located Wednesday, April 7th, in a Semiahmoo Park on Semiahmoo Spit.

The deceased individual has been identified as a 67-year-old male from South Whidbey Island, Washington.  At this time, we are not releasing the deceased’s name as we are still attempting to locate next of kin. The victim received multiple gunshot wounds and the Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled this a homicide.

The investigating agencies are requesting that anyone with information regarding this incident, or that was in the vicinity of Semiahmoo Spit between the hours of 2:30 AM and 6:30 AM on Wednesday morning, April 7th, and might have information pertaining to this investigation, to please contact either the Blaine Police Department or the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office is also asking for information that the public may have in regards to sightings of the attached vehicle which is believed to be the victim’s Ford Econoline van.  The vehicle was found abandoned in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 8th in the Fairhaven area of Bellingham.  The Sheriff’s Office is especially interested in sightings of this vehicle between the hours of 4:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Wednesday April 7th in Whatcom County.

Information can be provided to the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes tip line at 360-778-6663 or 911.  Chief Deputy Kevin Hester stated that: “Detectives are actively working this investigation around the clock in Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties and any information, no matter how small you might think it is, could be the tip needed to break this investigation wide open.”Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Blaine Police Department press release (April 9, 2021)
