BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department (BPD) officers were dispatched to a retail center parking lot near the intersection of Barkley Boulevard and Woburn Street about 9:30pm, Tuesday, May 24th, due to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Bellingham on May 20th.
According to unconfirmed law enforcement radio transmissions at the time and witness reports, the vehicle began driving away and officers used less lethal means to stop the fleeing vehicle.
People in the area reported hearing 4 or 5 shots fired and seeing part of the back window of the vehicle missing.
According to radio transmissions, Bellingham Fire Department aid personnel were dispatched and assessed and released 1 patient at the scene.
Sean Francis Gilmore, age 32, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail charged with suspicion of the following crimes.
- hit and run of an attended vehicle
- attempting to elude a police vehicle
- 2nd degree malicious mischief
- 2 counts of possession of a stolen vehicle
- 3rd degree possession of stolen property
- resisting arrest
He was also arrested under an active warrant out of Bellingham Municipal Court for hit and run of an attended vehicle. This charge carries a $20,100 bail requirement.
Gilmore can be expected to make a preliminary appearance in Whatcom County Superior Court on Wednesday at which time bail will be set for the new charges.
Gilmore has prior felony convictions for vehicular assault, 3rd degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and theft of a motor vehicle.
Bellingham Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for details.
