BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Martin Oscar Mora Lopez, age 33 and of Bellingham, pled guilty to a charge of 1st-degree robbery in Whatcom County Superior Court and was sentenced May 4th to 108 months in prison followed by 18 months of community custody.
The charge followed an armed robbery incident at a Bellingham bank branch in February of 2022. Bank employees had called 911 after Lopez came into the bank and demanded cash. He left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and was located and arrested without incident a few blocks away.
Lopez remained in custody at the Whatcom County Jail after bail was set at $100,000 following his arrest. The court issued credit for the time served prior to sentencing.
Charges of 1st-degree robbery and felony harassment in another case in Whatcom County Superior Court were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. He was sentenced to 84 months after pleading guilty to 2nd-degree assault in that case. This sentence is to run concurrent with the 108-month sentence.
Another charge of 1st-degree robbery in a third case in Whatcom County Superior Court was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Lopez has prior felony convictions that include felony harassment, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
