BAY VIEW, Wash. — A Bellingham man was declared dead at the scene of a 3-car crash yesterday afternoon, September 4th, in Skagit County. He was identified by Washington State Patrol (WSP) as Walter B Riddle, age 92, of Bellingham.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Josh Wilson Road and Farm to Market Road when the white 1998 Olds 88 the Bellingham man was driving eastbound on Josh Wilson Road failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection. It was struck in the intersection by a green 2008 Toyota RAV4 traveling southbound on Farm to Market Road and again by a white 1992 Honda Accord traveling northbound.
There are stop signs at the intersection for traffic on Josh Wilson Road but not for Farm to Market Road traffic. Both roads have 50mph speed limits.
A Deming couple in the Toyota were transported to Skagit Valley Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was uninjured.
All parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and neither drugs nor alcohol were considered to have been involved.
The WSP said a next-of-kin notification had been made by the Skagit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
WSP investigators determined the cause of the crash was failure to yield at a stop sign.
All vehicles were considered total losses and towed from the scene.
