It was a week ago when Discover Ferndale first reported a bear had been seen and was thought to have caused damage around the areas of west and north Ferndale.

Since then it has been suspected the bear killed a ewe in addition to the chickens killed initially. Based on sightings and evidence left behind, Jones had estimated the bear was a typical juvenile weighing between 125 and 150 pounds.

According to Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) Game Warden Dave Jones, three days ago there were several bear sightings around Jones Lane south of Ferndale in the Marietta neighborhoods. Since then, he has heard nothing.

Jones has since taken down the traps set up last week as it appeared the bear had left those areas and continues to be much more mobile than he expects a bear to be.
