Assault with a weapon in Maple Falls brings multi-agency response

MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said today, March 24th, they were dispatched earlier in the day to a Maple Falls address due to a report of a man who had been shot in the face.

About 7:30am, deputies were dispatched to the 6100 block of Hawthorne Place. Chief Deputy Rodger Funk said in an email that deputies and medical personnel were able to provide medical attention to the man and he was subsequently transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

A second man said to have been injured during the same assault incident had been located and was also transported to the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Bellingham Police who provided their Bearcat armored rescue vehicle, Sumas Police who provided assistance with their unmanned aerial vehicle drone, Customs and Border Protection helicopter and other Federal Partners.

At this time the case is being investigated by detectives.  No arrests have been made at this time.  There is no known danger to the community and the primary individuals involved in the altercation are accounted for.  Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Rodger Funk (March 24, 2023)
