WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — While weather forecasters are calling for another weekend of gusty winds and moderate to heavy rains, this weather system is expected to be weaker than last weekend’s.
A deep cyclone far off over the Gulf of Alaska is being blamed for the blustery weather forecast for Whatcom County.
Southerly sustained winds of around 15mph, with gusts upwards of 30mph, are forecast for the Whatcom County lowlands Saturday and Sunday, October 26th and 27th. The strongest winds are expected during the early hours on Saturday and again mid-day Sunday.
Upwards of 2 inches of rainfall are also being forecast. Impacts on the Nooksack River level is not expected to bring it to flood stage anywhere. Heaviest rainfall is expected Sunday.
Given the high level of ground saturation from recent rain, surface flooding is again a possibility in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Update: Forecasters with the National Weather Service Seattle office issued a wind advisory for 11pm tonight, Friday, to 5am tomorrow. During the advisory period, sustained southeast winds of 20 to 30mph 15 to 20mph with gusts up to 45mph 35mph are forecast for western Whatcom County.
