The Washington State Patrol’s (WSP) investigation of a fatal hit-and-run incident near the Grandview Road and I-5 interchange received an anonymous tip that resulted in the arrest of a Ferndale man.
Daniel Holcomb, age 51, of Ferndale was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday, December 20th about 3am and the vehicle that struck Holcomb then fled the scene according to the WSP.
Investigators said later that day the suspect vehicle was a pick-up truck or SUV with damage to the right front portion as well as a damaged bug shield.
According to WSP Trooper Heather Axtman, investigators received an anonymous tip that led them to interview Joshua Jay Bryant, age 43, of Ferndale on Friday. Bryant was cooperative with investigators and a search warrant was requested and received to search a vehicle of Bryant’s, Axtman said.
Following the search of the vehicle, Bryant was booked into the Whatcom County Jail yesterday evening under suspicion of being the driver in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in Holcomb’s death.
Bryant remained in custody as of this morning according to jail records.
