BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A 30-year-old man was arrested after a neighbor observed him starting a fire outside a residence in the 3900 block of Wynn Road and followed him until police arrived.

According to an affidavit prepared by Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and filed by prosecutors in Whatcom County Superior Court, deputies were dispatched about 1:40pm on Saturday, February 4th, due to a report of an arson. A neighbor reported witnessing a man on a bicycle pour gas out of a can near a residence and then light it. The neighbor was able to stomp out the fire.
The neighbor then got in a car and called 911 while following the suspect as he rode away on Old Marine Drive. A description was provided to deputies enroute.
The suspect was located by deputies still on the bicycle and matched the description provided by the witness.
Fire damage was said to have extended up an exterior wall “reaching the top of the window, and melted the trim around the window approximately six to seven feet high.”
The suspect, identified as Kyran Tre Mayshack, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail charged with 1st-degree arson.
Mayshack was listed as a suspect in 3 separate recent arsons being investigated by Bellingham Police. These occurred in the 2300 block of Pacific Street, 1200 block of Toledo Street and 1700 block of Alabama Street. In the Toledo Street incident, it was reported fires were intentionally set on the porches of multiple residences.
As of February 7th, Mayshack remained in custody pending being able to post a $250,000 bond.
Mayshack has a prior felony conviction for forgery and, at the time of his arson arrest, was facing the following felony charges in 4 cases in Whatcom County Superior Court dating back to 2020.
- 2nd-degree burglary
- 2nd-degree theft
- 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
- possession of stolen mail
- 2nd-degree assault
- 2nd-degree malicious mischief
At the time of the arson arrest, Mayshack was out of custody after posting appearance bonds of $2,000, $5,000 $2,500 and $5,000.
