The bankruptcy court today approved the Albertsons offer to purchase 29 Haggen stores.
In making the offer which the court approved today, Albertsons expressed an interest in keeping the Haggen name on 15 local stores, including the Ferndale location.
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union expressed a hope this transaction would be approved since they represent both Albertsons and Haggen workers. As a result, the transition for employees is expected to be far simpler than if another company had purchased the stores. It is also expected, according to the union, that Albertsons will extend employment offers to Haggen workers.
This seemingly provides an end to the months of uncertainty for employees and customers of the Ferndale Haggen.
According to a court document filed March 11th, if the purchase was approved, the transfer of ownership would happen over four months.
