The Air Stagnation Advisory issued December 29th has had its start moved to tomorrow, January 1st, at 5am.
Clear days and nights with only a light breeze offer the perfect weather scenario for holding air pollutants near the ground instead of allowing them to dissipate. As a result, air quality worsens.
According to the most recent version of the National Weather Service advisory,
* air quality… will deteriorate due to colder air near the surface
being trapped by warmer air aloft. This will allow pollutants to
increase at the surface.* Impacts… wood smoke… vehicle… or Industrial emissions may
degrade air quality through early next week. This may have an
adverse impact on those with respiratory illnesses.
Air quality, as reported by the NW Clean Air Agency’s Loomis Road monitoring station over the last three days, has remained in the “Good” range as shown below.
