Issues scheduled to be discussed at the regular Ferndale City Council meeting, Monday, May 16th at 6pm include what can be done with the traffic signals on Main Street and reconsideration of the recently approved 2nd marijuana retail store.
Included on the Ferndale City Council meeting agenda published by the city are the following items:
- On the consent agenda is the approval of a flat fee on properties currently served by the Central City Water Association (CCWA) to cover the costs of a project this summer to connect the properties to the city water system. While the specific fee amount on each property’s every-other-month water bill in addition to actual usage charges won’t be known until the project has been completed, it is currently being estimated at $75 according to agenda documents.
- Transpo Group is a Kirkland WA community transportation consulting firm who has advised the city on traffic issues in the past. At the city’s request, they recently inventoried current signaling system hardware along Main Street. Based on their findings, they will present options for making better use of and/or replacing the equipment.
- City staff will ask councilmembers to approve a request to spend up to $15,000 to have Transpo Group review a draft Interchange Justification Report (IJR) documents detailing recommendations for spending approximately $20 million in funding to improve the I-5 Slater Road interchange. This funding was recently approved by Washington State legislators. The final IJR will be submitted to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for consideration.
- Public Works Department will request approval for the hiring of one full time Capital Project Inspector.
- Councilmembers will be asked to consider a moratorium on accepting applications until zoning changes can be made to change the number of licensable retail marijuana businesses to 1 from the current 2. Agenda documents do not explain why this issue is being brought before council again. Council went through the process of permitting a 2nd marijuana retail business with a public hearing, council discussion and council vote back in February.
The city council meeting is scheduled to begin at 6pm in the City Council Chambers. Community members are encouraged to attend.
