People have asked about a unique shiny silver plane seen flying over Ferndale the last day or two. A little research revealed it’s a Boeing B-17 aircraft named “Sentimental Journey.” It is on display through Thursday Friday at the Bellingham Airport from 9am to 5pm as it tours the west coast between here and California.
B-17s were made to fly in battles during World War II, the first rolling off the assembly line in 1935. There’s a great article on KREM’s website about a veteran who flew dozens of missions over Germany in a B-17 being able to tour Sentimental Journey while it is in Bellingham.
The plane is based out of Commemorative Air Force Airbase Arizona. Tours through the aircraft are available (kids under 5 free, $5 adults) and rides are available for $850 for the nose seats and $425 for radio room/waist gunners seats with a minimum of five passengers signed up. For rides call (602) 448-9415.
