Sumas, Wash. — AB & JS Investments LLC has recently been issued a business license and has a liquor license pending under the business name, Sumas Market, a grocery store planned at the former location of Price Chopper, 944 Cherry Street in Sumas.
AB & JS Investments LLC principals are Sarabjit Malhi and Arundeep Bath.
Sumas has been without a local grocery store since Bromley’s Market closed in 2017 after an extended drop in the Canadian dollar’s value.
Sumas Chamber President Nicole Sandoval Postma told Whatcom News the closest grocery store for Sumas residents has been 8 miles away in Everson and the next closest is at Nugents Corner, 13 miles away.
Postma said she has been told the new business owners hope to be up and running by early May.
