UPDATED: Injury crash near Custer at the intersection of Bay and Bruce Roads

CUSTER, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to a report of an injury crash near the intersection of Bay and Bruce Roads today, January 20th, about 3:30pm.

Initial reports from the scene were of 1 driver with injuries and the other without.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue EMS personnel responded. According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, it appeared a pickup truck southbound on Bruce Road failed to stop at the stop sign at Bay Road and was t-boned by a sedan traveling eastbound on Bay Road. It took about 20 minutes for EMS personnel to extricate the driver from the sedan.

The driver of the sedan was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medic Center with serious injuries.

The road was closed between Grandview Road/Vista Drive and Valley View.

Approximate location of crash

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
