6 displaced after fire destroys Ferndale residence

FERNDALE, Wash. — Firefighters were dispatched today, October 27th, about 10:15am to the south end of Portal Way due to a report of a residential fire.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman told Whatcom News they arrived to see flames coming from a bedroom with someone attempting to douse them with a garden hose.

Hoffman said they were led to believe a person was inside and they went into rescue mode. About 10 minutes later, they were able to confirm that all occupants were accounted for outside the structure.

The fire totally destroyed the residence and the Red Cross was notified to assist 6 displaced adults.

WCFD7 firefighters, assisted by firefighters from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and Bellingham Fire Department, knocked down the fire and remained on the scene doing mop up 2 hours later.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
