42nd Legislative candidates hold debate in Ferndale tonight

The public is invited to attend a debate tonight between candidates vying for the 42nd District Legislative Position 1 seat currently held by Luanne Van Werven (R) at the Ferndale Public Library.

With the primary election only a few weeks away (August 2nd), this may be the only opportunity to get to know the candidates and hear their positions in detail before the primary election.

The event has been organized by independent candidate Doug Karlberg and Libertarian candidate Jacob Lamont. According to the organizers,

The other two candidates running for the position, Republican Luanne Van Werven and Democrat Sharlaine LaClair, have declined to participate. [But] we’ll make contingency plans to include them if they change their minds, including a chair for each of them at the debate

Under Washington State’s primary system, the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party affiliation, will advance to the general election in November.
