FERNDALE, Wash. — A chronically flooded section of W Smith Road is scheduled for road surface repairs this week that will result in closing the road to all traffic from Monday, August 16th, through Thursday, August 19th, according to City of Ferndale Public Works.
The water flowing north to south across the road has been due to overflowing from ponds and swales located to the north between Hovander Road and LaBounty Drive according to city staff
When water flows across the road it saturates the bed beneath the asphalt surface. The lack of a firm roadbed has causes the asphalt surface to break apart and large potholes have had to be repaired.

A signed detour via Hovander Road, Main Street and LaBounty Drive will be in place during the closure and using alternative routes are advised. Drivers can access services and businesses behind the road closure via Hovander Road from Main Street.
