3 jailed after early morning armed robbery at Bellingham business

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department officers were dispatched about 3:35am, Wednesday, March 30th, to a report of an armed robbery at a retail business near the intersection of Yew Street and Alabama Street in Bellingham.

According to police radio transmissions at the time, descriptions of the suspects were broadcast, and officers soon after located a vehicle containing subjects that matched the descriptions and found property inside matching what was reported stolen.

Jail records indicate Alexander Thomas Hughes, age 18, Joshua Jo Whitney, age 31, and Jabez Sinclair Singleton, age 18, had been booked into Whatcom County Jail by BPD and charged with suspicion of 1st degree robbery and 3rd degree theft. Singleton and Hughes were also charged with suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon and Singleton was also charged with suspicion a minor in possession of a firearm.

A BPD spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for details.

All 3 were being held without bail until making a preliminary court appearance.

Update 9:25am: The BPD press summary log states 1 of the suspects was armed with a loaded handgun. A previously unnamed jailed subject is identified as Jabez Sinclair Singleton, age 18.
