3 displaced by Ferndale area residential fire

FERNDALE, Wash. — Firefighters rescued 2 dogs after neighbors saw to it 3 occupants were safely out of a residence that caught fire this evening, January 13th on Northwest Drive.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters were dispatched about 6:45pm to a residence in a mobile home park next to the North Bellingham Fire Station in the 5300 block of Northwest Drive.

WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson said the fire appeared to have started in a shop area attached to the rear of the double-wide mobile home. It made its way into the residence via the attic but was quickly knocked down by firefighters according to Iverson.

Firefighters were still on the scene as of 8:30pm.

Iverson said neighbors helped the 3 residents get out of the fire and American Red Cross Northwest Region was contacted to assist them. There were 2 dogs inside that were rescued by firefighters.

Whatcom County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
