CUSTER, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 7100 block of Portal Way about 1:30pm yesterday, November 11th, due to a report of a multi-vehicle crash.
Approximate location of the crash
According to photos shared by Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) to their social media accounts, 1 of the vehicles ended up near a culvert in a deep ditch that runs under Portal Way and adjacent railroad tracks.
According to WCFD7, they removed the driver from the vehicle in the ditch which required placing them in a rescue basket and then lifting them out via ropes attached to a ladder truck.
WCFD7 Lieutenant Michael Gustafson told Whatcom News they transported 1 patient from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Portal Way was closed in both directions for an extended time following the crash.
