BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 4200 block of Creston Way in Bellingham about 7pm on May 18, 2025.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Whatcom County Superior Court, BPD officers arrived to find a juvenile male unconscious with a gunshot wound to his head and lying next to a handgun. Another male juvenile who had called 911 to report the shooting was also there uninjured. The 2 were visiting a friend’s apartment and had been “playing around with the laser on the gun.” The friend had stepped into another room and heard a gunshot.
The gunshot victim was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.
The 18-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail. He now faces the following felony charges in court.
- 1st-degree assault with great bodily harm
- 1st-degree unlawful firearm possession
At a preliminary hearing on May 19, 2025, bail was set at $1 million. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for May 30, 2025.
As of May 22, 2025, the suspect remained in custody at the jail.
