BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-5 north of the Sunset Drive interchange about 10:20pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, due to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and rolled down an embankment on the east side of the freeway.
Initial emergency services radio transmissions from the scene reported first responders arrived to find 2 occupants in the vehicle.
The right lane of northbound I-5 was closed through the area until shortly before 1am according to Washington State Department of Transportation.
WSP Trooper Anthony Reese told Whatcom News the passenger suffered minimal injuries and was evaluated and released at the scene. The driver had serious injuries and was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. The driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI).

It was between Northwest and Bakerview exits instead of Sunset and it was closer to 8pm, I went through just before 830pm, and not 1030pm.
