Birch Bay fire leaves 2 residences destroyed

BIRCH BAY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 7500 block of Terrill Drive about 12:40pm on Sunday, March 6th, due to a report of a residential fire.

According to North Whatcom Fire & Rescue Fire Chief Jason Van der Veen, firefighters arrived to find the residence fully involved.

Approximate location of the fire

Van der Veen said an occupant of the residence was away at the time of the fire which was reported by a neighbor.

A mobile home next door suffered extensive fire damage and was not occupied at the time of the fire. The wood frame residence was a total loss.

A pet dog in the residence died in the fire. There were no injuries to other occupants or firefighters reported.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
