Bellingham Police investigate body found in car

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police Department (BPD) officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle about 6:30pm yesterday, Saturday, January 15th.

According to BPD Lieutenant Claudia Murphy responding officers located the car in the 2200 block of Cornwall Avenue. Responding officers saw a person lying down inside the car. There was no response while officers were knocking on the car windows. Murphy said in an email, “Fearing the person was in medical distress, the officer checked to see if the car was unlocked to begin medical intervention if needed. The officer was able to open the door, got no response from the person and discovered they appeared to be deceased.”

Approximate location where the car was located

Bellingham Fire Department medics were requested and confirmed the person was deceased according to Murphy.  BPD crime scene investigators and detectives responded to the scene and began a death investigation.

The body was taken to the Whatcom County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy is scheduled for this week. No further information is available due to the ongoing investigation.
